Airplay is a feature of Safari (and other Apple apps like Quicktime) that allows you stream content to your projector without sharing your entire screen.Β
Most of the time teachers use the Screen Mirroring option to show off their whole display, but sometimes sharing only the content itself has some benefits:
Less distractions on the screen
Play pre-roll ads before showing your studentsΒ
Smoother playback from sites like Youtube.
Open Safari and head to the video you'd like to show on your projector.
Most popular video websites, like YouTube and Vimeo,
support AirPlay when viewed through Safari.
Click on the AirPlay icon, and choose your desired Apple TV.
If asked, input the passcode displayed on the Apple TV.
Important β Since Google Chrome doesn't support AirPlay, you'll need to open Safari in order to AirPlay web content directly from your Mac.Β
If it's a video that's already on your Mac, QuickTime will have an Airplay button as well.
If your projector has a Chromecast connected, you and your students can mirror videos, photos, and websites from a Chromebook. This is usually found in intermediate classes.
