Shared iPads let students log-in from any device and access their work—but consistency is key.
Assign each student a specific iPad from your class list to avoid confusion and speed things up.
The default passcode is 4321
When logging a student in for the first time, you’ll be prompted to reset the passcode
Set a simple passcode for all your students based on grade
(Kindergarten: 0000 | Grade 1: 1111| Grade 2: 2222)
Avoid letting students choose their own passcodes—it’s a recipe for forgetfulness!
Pro Tip 🔥 Batch the setup—grab 4–5 iPads and run through a few students at a time. Tag in a colleague during a prep block and get the first time setup done fast!
Logging Out of Student iPads.
Student work is saved to the cloud—so logging out matters. It keeps their info safe, clears the device for the next user, and prevents mix-ups between classes.
Swipe down from the top middle of the screen
On the lock screen, tap Log Out (bottom left corner)
Return the iPad to the charging cart
⚠️ Good to know: If a student doesn’t log in for 90 days, you’ll need to reset their passcode again.
It's important to set clear expectations with students about how iPads are used differently at school versus home. Read volume 64 of our Classroom Chronicles for a thoughtful and creative way to introduce classroom iPads in primary grades.
