Chromebooks are made to run Google apps and boot up in seconds—perfect for classrooms.
If you know how to use Chrome, you’re already halfway there. The main difference? Almost everything runs through the browser. No bulky apps. No clutter. Just search and go. We’ve also configured them to connect automatically to the Student Wifi network. This network is managed and filtered to keep unwanted content off your students' screens.
Students sign in with their school Google Account (studentname@yourschool.ca).
Once signed in, they’ll instantly have access to:
Chrome
Google Classroom
Google Drive and the rest of Workspace (Docs, Slides etc...)
Apps and extensions approved by your school
To sign out:
Click Sign out in the bottom right
Or hold the Power button for 5 seconds
Or press Ctrl + Shift + Q (twice)
Pro-Tip 🔥 Chromebooks sometimes won't do what you want! A great first troubleshooting step is to plug it into power and press the power button.
3/4 times, this will reset the Chromebook and let you sign back in. If it doesn't... reach out!
Occasionally, you’ll walk by a chromebook and the cursor is giant, the screen colours are inverted, images are upside down or the keyboard is typing incorrect characters. Your student’s figured out how to change these settings, you should know too! Here’s how to tame these common Chromebook quirks!
You’ll know this has been changed because you and your students have tried typing a password multiple times, and it still says it’s incorrect!
Here’s how to check that your keyboard is correctly configured:
In the bottom right corner, look for a GB, FR or other acronym next to the Time.
Click the acronym and switch the language back to Canadian (CA).
Toggle this setting by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Space simultaneously. Watch for the language to change to Canadian (CA) in the bottom right corner
Toggle this setting by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Refresh (circular arrow key) simultaneously.
Toggle this setting by pressing Ctrl + Search + H simultaneously.
Click the Time in the bottom right corner of the screen, then click Settings .
In Settings, select Accessibility from the left-hand menu and click Cursor and Touchpad on the right-hand side.
Click the toggle switch next to Show large mouse cursor to turn it on.
By default, the mouse cursor will now be set to Large. Use the slider for Adjust cursor size to make the cursor smaller, if required.
